Encore Preparation and Performance
tentatively June 18-25*
Through observation over the past 27 years we have learned that the more participants are able to attend the whole group sessions the more successful they can be at the workshop and the more they get out of it and enjoy their experience, therefore it is extremely important that every effort be made for all participants to be at all sessions.
However, we understand that missing all or part of some sessions may be unavoidable. We have created minimum attendance requirements to make sure the participants have the best experience possible, but still allow for some flexibility for absences that cannot be avoided. Because we honestly feel that these requirements are necessary for success in the workshop, applicants will not be able to participate in the workshop if they cannot meet these attendance requirements. Please note that long periods of absence may mean participants do not get to be involved in every phase of the workshop.
If you are interested participating but will be gone for more than three days in a row during the last three weeks of the workshop please let us know at the beginning of the workshop so we can discuss what it means for your participation.
Minimum attendance requirements
You must be able to participate in 4 full sessions (can include half sessions, etc. so long as it adds up to four) out of the first 7 sessions held on Saturday May 13 (3:00-6:00 pm), Sunday May 14 (3:00-6:00 pm), Tuesday May 16 (3:45-6:45 pm), Thursday May 18 (3:45-6:45 pm), Sunday May 20 (1:00-4:00 pm), Tuesday May 23 (3:45-6:45 pm), & Thursday May 25 (3:45-6:45)
Participants who will perform must be able to attend the final full company rehearsal on Wednesday, June 14 from 6:00-10:00 pm.
More about encore
This summer’s workshop may be extended by one week as MXTW has the opportunity to offer our participants an exciting additional cultural experience. Last year director Gwethalyn Williams and alum Megan Clark collaborated with Scenelusa Produksjoner of Oslo, Norway to help create the Norwegian Experimental Theater Workshop (NExT) which offers an experience similar to MXTW to Norwegian students.
This summer we have invited the NExT team to join us in Manhattan to share each other’s work and use the shared techniques we have learned to work together. If enough funds are able to be raised for them to make the trip a special encore performance is being planned to showcase work by NExT alongside and with MXTW. This encore performance will be the weekend following our regularly scheduled performances.
Not being able to be in the encore performance will NOT exempt applicants from being in the workshop, if you are unable to perform in the encore you can still participate in the workshop fully, but we do want as many people as possible to be able to participate in the encore. Participants who will perform in this encore will be required to attend at least one rehearsal during the week between June 18 & 23 and rehearsal most of the day on the day of the encore performance on either the 24th or 25th of June.
The NExT visit is pending funding at this time, so is not guaranteed yet, but please keep these potential extended dates in mind when making your summer plans. As soon as session times and dates for this additional week are decided upon all applicants will be notified and this schedule posting will be updated
