Let There Be Light

by Gwethalyn

Today we had the tech sessions for four of the small group pieces. In these sessions we set the light cues and get to do a run through with lights, so the tech crew can get their cues down. This session, where the performers get to perform in the stage lights for the first time, always seems to bring about a real transformation in all the pieces. It may be that the lights really help define the emotional qualities of the pieces, or it may be that all of a sudden it seems like it’s really going to happen – they’re really going to do this in front of an audience – and it scares everyone in to doing their best. Actually, it’s probably a bit of both. In past years tech sessions have sometimes been very trying, but not this year! The tech sessions all went very smoothly. Thanks to all involved: Kearsten, Libby, Jim, all the assistant directors and the participants! In fact, I think I actually ended the day with more energy than I began with, because the tech sessions really got me excited for the show. All of the pieces are coming along really nicely. Everyone involved seems to really be having fun working hard and doing really great hard work! It’s going to be quite a show. Now if only the full company tech session tomorrow goes as smoothly . . .
