ANYONE INTERESTED IN EXPERIMENTAL THEATER SHOULD BE INTERESTED IN THIS:

Theater of the Oppressed was created by Augusto Boal and we use many exercises from his work in our training for the workshop.  A visiting professor and practitioner of Theater of the Oppressed is leading a workshop for some K-State students next week and they will present work created in their workshop in a FREE performance next Friday, May 29th at 7pm at the MAC!  Here is the official informational blurb:

Forum Theater Performance: May 29th, 7 pm

Location: Manhattan Arts Center, 1520 Poyntz Ave

On Friday, May 29th, students from KSU will present a Forum Theater performance created from real-life struggles that reflect issues facing the country today. Forum Theater is a form of interactive theater in which community members present a short scene depicting an abuse of power in order to stimulate community dialogue and active problem-solving. This form of theater was developed by Brazilian popular educator, cultural activist, and city councillor Augusto Boal in 1973 as part of a Peruvian literacy program. Nearly 50 years later, Forum Theater is practiced in schools, factories, prisons, and community centers in over 70 countries to address a broad range of social and political issues including access to water, police brutality, homelessness and affordable housing, sick leave, pay equity, elder abuse, racial profiling, and immigration laws to name a few. It has also been used to generate relevant, effective social policy that is grounded in the realities faced by those most affected.
