Attendance Policy
The goal of this workshop is to learn about and create work together collaboratively, so a certain amount of time spent together virtually is necessary to ensure that participants have enough training and time working together to be successful and enjoy the work.
It is important that every effort be made for all participants to be at all sessions. However, we understand that missing all or part of some sessions may be unavoidable. We have created minimum attendance requirements to make sure our participants have the best experience possible, but still allow for some flexibility for absences that cannot be avoided.
Requirements
First 2 weeks: Exploration work
In the first two weeks we will be reading and discussing plays and doing training exercises and trying things out to see what we can do together in the medium of virtual theater.
There are two kinds of sessions in the exploration work weeks: Exploration Sessions and Reader Discussion Sessions. In order to continue on to the Creation Process you must attend 4 of the 8 exploration sessions and attend 3 of the 6 reader discussion sessions.
Session makeup
If you are unable to attend enough reader discussion sessions you can make up for them by doing the reading on your own and completing the writing exploration exercises for the readings you miss. You must either attend or complete the writing exercises for at least 8 playwrights from the reader to move on to the Creation Process.
Target Story and voting
During the second week there are also two Target Story Discussion sessions, which are optional. Voting will take place through online forms.
Last 4 weeks: Creation process
Before the creation process begins, you will be given the choice of if you would like to join a small group, participate in only the whole company pieces, or do both.
Whole group rehearsals
The rehearsals for the whole company pieces are already set in the schedule. If you need to miss some of these rehearsals please let us know at the beginning of the workshop, it may affect how you can participate.
Small group meetings
The small groups make their own schedule each week around the availability of the group members. Small groups meet 3-4 times a week for 2 hours. You will also be expected to use some time outside these meetings to complete writing assignments and memorize lines.
If you think you might have difficulty attending meetings
If you want to participate but think you will have difficulty meeting the attendance requirements, please reach out to our director, Gwethalyn (gwethalyn@manhattanarts.org). There may still be options for you to participate in the workshop based on your availability. Please don’t assume you can’t participate, please reach out. We want as many people as possible to be able to do this. We will work with you to figure out how participation might be possible if you cannot meet these requirements, however we cannot guarantee there will be a solution for every situation.
Tech Meetings
Each participant should plan to have a 30 minute tech consultation some time in the first 2-3 weeks of the workshop. These meetings will be scheduled around participant and tech team’s availability.
